Teaching at Debut Since: 2011
Dennis has been doing theatre so long that he can’t remember a time before I was performing onstage. His parents used to take him to see children’s theatre productions when he was young and he grew up playing lots of music at home. Jumping up on stage to perform was probably inevitable. When he got older, Dennis turned his love of the performing arts into a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in composition from Webster University in St. Louis.
Some of Dennis’ favorite onstage roles include Gollum in “The Hobbit” and Frollo in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” as a Debut Player. Outside of Debut, he has played Mr. Martin in “The Bald Soprano” and the Actor in “The Woman in Black.” Dennis also has plenty of experience backstage, including time as a synthesizer programmer for the Opera Theatre of St. Louis production of “Nixon in China.”
In addition to teaching at Debut, he is heavily involved with Fort Collins music scene. He plays acoustic bass with singer/songwriter, Danielle Ate the Sandwich and a variety of other instruments with whoever will play with him. Dennis is also a board member of both Opera Fort Collins and the Fort Collins Musician’s Association. In what little free time he has, he enjoying playing board and card games, cooking and poking around in his garden. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Karen and their cat, Gossamer. He wears argyle socks almost every day.
Dennis says, “Teaching theatre is just plain fun! It’s amazing to see what kinds of ideas young people can come up with and to see them develop as a team.”
